A case of “the results don’t tell the full story!”
Championship Series round 9 at North Carolina Quarter Midget Association (NCQMA) was… interesting to say the least. With dad gone, Uncle Zach stepped up to crew chief and be the team leader. And we had some good and bad moments.
In the Dinner with Racers Junior 160, we qualified 4th and… yup… had a rocket again. After getting freight trained from the outside all the way to 7th at the start, Little E convincingly drove back to 3rd and was catching 2nd, but ran out of laps. If we only had track position early in these 160 races…
After qualifying 5th (out of 16) in the Seamless Dentistry Junior Honda, we jumped to 3rd at the start of the race and had one of the most epic battles of the year with Brayden Ickler, Kenan Brown Racing and RooMax Racing. All four drivers were racing hard and trading positions lap after lap with epic crossovers and clean passes. In the end, we’d finish 4th, but proud of the racing craft we saw from our driver and all four kids. Amazing stuff.
Things took a turn for the worst in the Strickland Brothers 10 Minute Oil Change Junior Animal. Another 4th place start lead to a monster crash when our buddy Brayden spun and we had no where to go, t-boning him at full speed. Despite a bloody nose, bloody lip and hurt ankle, Little E went back out and finished the race like a champ… but struggled to a 4th place finish. The end result didn’t show the pride we had in him overcoming the crash to finish the race. He will be sore tomorrow.
While we hoped for another win, we know it’s coming, especially against this level of competition. Little E’s driving abilities have been on full display the last couple races and we couldn’t be more proud.
